My department focuses upon ‘personalised medicine’ – this involves fitting the right treatment or drug based on a patient’s DNA

When I finished my undergraduate degree in Genetics, this area was expanding quite rapidly and therefore I found it really interesting so I applied for the job

It was whilst working in the department that I got offered my PhD on C. Diff – I was really motivated to study this disease as one of my relatives had developed it in hospital when I was in University!

Because I loved my undergraduate degree. I studied human physiology which basically taught me how the human body worked.

I wanted to know more. Curiosity was my main drive I suppose. You just have to keep going with something you love once you find it.
