Looking at how certain cells of our immune system may influence the hardening of blood vessels

My Typical Day

is a mix of lab work (doing experiments on my bench) and data analysis (collating photos/numbers on my PC)

What I'd do with the money

Use it to create a graffiti mural showing how atherosclerosis progresses and affects us over time.

My Interview

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

curious, observant, persistent

Moroccan Lamb with couscous and dates (or anything sweet!)

What is the most fun thing you've done?

Snorkeling coral reefs ‘chasing’ after clown fish

Were you ever in trouble in at school?

Yes, a couple of times (daydreaming of being outdoors on sunny days was my sin!)

Maths/Geometry & Art.

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

Shown that one of our genes (Wnt4) is possibly involved in the narrowing of blood vessels

What or who inspired you to become a scientist?

Curiosity for what lies inside the body & how it all works (from limb movements to thoughts/emotions).

If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?

Circus performer (always a dream!), A&E doctor (if I had done Medicine) or some sort of ‘body’ teacher.

If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!

Be healthy, have some best friends/family living closer & get a license to fly a plane!

Tell us a joke.

My favourite city is Dublin. Why? It keeps doubling and doubling… ;-)
